Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.2/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its reliability, stylish design, and strong performance, and many also like its handling and resale value. In practical terms, that makes it a good fit if you want a midsize truck with long-term appeal and broad everyday usefulness. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, durability, and long-lasting performance, along with a reputation you can count on over time. That kind of owner sentiment matters if you plan to keep the truck for years, because it suggests lower anxiety around long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is paying a premium for a truck that may still need careful condition screening before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, frame areas, suspension components, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is often bought for durability and resale value, condition should matter as much as mileage when you compare listings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,627 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,055, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $25,669 sits slightly below last year's $25,887.

That small decline suggests the Tacoma is holding value fairly well rather than swinging sharply with the market. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it reduces the risk of a steep drop in what your truck is worth. It also means well-kept examples should continue to attract buyers who value the Tacoma's reputation and long-term appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,302, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $25,669 average.
• The 2016 offers broad configurability for buyers who want more body-style and drivetrain flexibility.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around market position and are comfortable paying more for a newer model year, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the Tacoma's core strengths.
