Used 2019 Toyota Tacoma for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2019 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 2.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,300 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for used shoppers.

Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2019 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers commonly praise its reliability, solid performance, longevity, and resale value. The truck’s distinctive personality and strong feature set also come through in owner feedback. On the other hand, some shoppers point to a high price tag, limited interior space, and issues with power and the audio system.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a midsize pickup that prioritizes rugged character and daily usefulness over polish. The trade-offs are clear, especially outdated technology and poor ride quality, but the Tacoma’s loyal following makes sense if you want a truck that feels honest and durable.

Good and great deals account for 31.9% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers frequently describe it as reliable, long-lasting, and dependable, with many saying they trust it for the long haul. The expert review also emphasizes its legendary indestructibility and notes that it is known to hold its value over time. Toyota’s free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles adds another ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about reputation and more about condition, since hard use and age-related wear can matter a lot on a truck like this.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma?

At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, suspension, brakes, and interior wear. Because this truck is often used hard, condition matters as much as mileage. It’s also smart to compare trim equipment carefully so you know whether a listing has the features you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma’s trims range from SR to TRD Pro, and the biggest gaps show up in ruggedness, appearance, and cabin finish. Base versions are simpler and more work-focused, while higher trims add more distinctive styling and equipment.
• Powertrain: Most Tacomas use a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive are both offered, and the V6 setup brings towing hardware and a maximum tow rating of 6,800 pounds depending on version.
• Safety package: Every 2019 Tacoma gets Toyota Safety Sense, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions.
• Infotainment: The truck uses a 7-inch display, and the system lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for this model year. The available JBL audio system is a plus, but the interface itself is dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive notes a combined figure of 20 mpg for the test truck.

Which 2019 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point if you want the Tacoma’s core truck character at the lowest price, but it’s the most basic way into the lineup.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier specialty models.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-forward Tacoma with a sportier look and a step up in equipment.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the one to target if you want the most capability for rough terrain, with the off-road hardware described in the expert review.
• Limited: This trim leans into comfort and refinement, and the test vehicle shows it can still be a strong all-around choice even without the TRD extras.
• TRD Pro: Pick this if you want the most rugged, highest-spec Tacoma in the lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,430, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $28,976 sits slightly below last year's $29,657.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward from a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may remain supported, but you should not expect rapid appreciation from today’s price level. The Tacoma’s strong reputation and loyal demand still help it hold value better than many used trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The Tacoma Double Cab earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small overlap, frontal-impact, front passenger protection, and the Tacoma gets a four-star overall rating from NHTSA for crash protection.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions.

The main caveat is that headlight performance and LATCH anchor access rate as Marginal, and the Access Cab was not assessed in the small-overlap test.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its rugged honesty, strong value, and loyal following.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,312, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $28,976 average.
• It adds useful design and technology updates while staying true to the Tacoma’s rugged character.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and don’t mind the older tech, the 2019 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly updated truck, the 2020 is the better next step.

How does the 2019 Toyota Tacoma compare to the 2019 Ford Ranger?

Our experts score the 2019 Toyota Tacoma 7.7/10 and the 2019 Ford Ranger 7.2/10.

The Tacoma is the pricier used truck, but it also brings a stronger value story, more listings, and a more established reputation for long-term satisfaction. The Ranger counters with a lower average used price, better fuel economy, and a slightly higher share of accident-free listings. If you want the more proven, personality-driven truck, the Tacoma makes sense; if you want the cheaper and more efficient option, the Ranger is worth a look.
