CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna

Summary
With 88 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,121, 25.0% of 2017 Toyota Sienna listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.88 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical, family-focused minivan with a reputation for safety, reliability, and versatility. It offers three rows of seating, plenty of passenger room, and a cabin that can be opened up for a large amount of cargo space when the second and third rows are removed. That flexibility is a major part of its appeal, especially for buyers who need one vehicle to handle people-moving and hauling duties.
For 2017, the Sienna was still part of the third generation, and Toyota had already given it a more powerful V6 for that model year. The engine output was 296 horsepower, and the revised setup was paired with a new eight-speed transmission. Toyota also added direct fuel injection for that year, and the Sienna could be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Standard Toyota SafetySense and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto helped make it feel well equipped, while the available trim range added features such as captain’s chairs, four-zone climate control, leather-trimmed seats, and a JBL audio system on higher versions.
At the same time, the 2017 Toyota Sienna is not without drawbacks. The source notes that the new eight-speed transmission could be problematic, particularly for the 2017 and 2018 model years, and power sliding doors have also been a recurring concern in this generation. Even so, the Sienna remains appealing for shoppers who value space, comfort, and a strong reputation for dependable family transportation.

I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

How much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,041 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,595 |
| Year-Round High | $19,948 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,689 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.29% |
Prices have softened 3.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,264 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, comfort, and reliability, and many also value the versatile seating layout and family-friendly convenience features. That makes it a strong fit if you want a practical minivan for moving people, cargo, or both. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive price.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability alongside comfort and spaciousness, and drivers also describe it as a dependable choice for family use. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how each individual van was cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any van that looks promising. Focus especially on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the sliding doors and other high-use features operate.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,264 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,595, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $19,041 sits slightly below last year's $19,689.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a seller, the key advantage is that this model still has broad family appeal, which can help support demand when you decide to list it. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should be easier to move than vans with visible wear or accident records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $17,626, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $19,041 average.
- It offers strong value and useful tech for families.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $21,423, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $19,041 average.
- It is especially appealing if all-wheel drive matters to you.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and current market availability, the 2017 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer option, the 2018 is worth comparing.
