CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna

Summary
With 968 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,469.00, 30.1% of 2017 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.88 / 5 stars.
51.4% of 2017 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a family-focused minivan that emphasizes space, versatility, and everyday usefulness. It offers three rows of seating, plenty of room for passengers, and a low-load floor, and it can still swallow 4'x8' sheets of plywood or sheetrock when the second and third rows are removed. That combination of passenger room and cargo flexibility is a big part of its appeal, especially for buyers who need one vehicle to handle school runs, road trips, and hauling duties.
It is also notable for its safety and convenience equipment. The Sienna comes standard with Toyota SafetySense 2.0 and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the safety suite includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Even the base LE trim is described as well equipped, with Softex upholstery on the stowable second- and third-row seats, keyless entry, push-button start, blind spot monitoring, and a large number of USB ports within easy reach of front and rear passengers.
At the same time, the 2017 Toyota Sienna is not without drawbacks. The source notes transmission issues for this model year, so it is worth paying close attention during a test drive. More broadly, the Sienna is described as not particularly cool, and used examples can be expensive because demand has kept values strong. Still, for shoppers prioritizing comfort, reliability, and a highly adaptable interior, the 2017 Sienna remains a compelling choice.

Reviewed a 2017 Toyota Sienna on Sep 15, 2023
I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

How much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,511 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,593.69 |
| Year-Round High | $20,190.88 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,161 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.23% |
Prices have softened 3.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,005 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $18,593.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, comfort, and reliability, and many also like the versatility of the seating layout and the convenience features that make it especially useful for families. With its three rows, flexible cargo space, and everyday practicality, it fits well if you need one vehicle for school runs, road trips, and hauling duties. The market also shows 24.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying it is a vehicle they can count on for family use over the long term. That said, you should still buy carefully because used examples can vary in condition and maintenance history. For long-term ownership, the main risk is ending up with a neglected example rather than a fundamentally weak platform.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection if the report shows any damage or repairs. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and how the vehicle drives, since a clean-looking minivan can still hide expensive issues. Given the model-year notes about transmission concerns, a careful road test matters even more than usual.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 24.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,005 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,593.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $19,511 sits slightly below last year's $20,161.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Sienna’s family-friendly reputation and broad usefulness help support demand among shoppers who want space, comfort, and practicality. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you should be better positioned when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 24.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $17,428, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $19,511 average.
- It adds Siri Eyes Free for iPhone voice control.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $21,580, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $19,511 average.
- It emphasizes all-wheel drive for buyers who need extra traction.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best all-around pick if you want strong owner satisfaction, broad practicality, and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the value play; if you specifically want all-wheel drive and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the better fit.
