How much does the 2016 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 5.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,770 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Mustang earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fun and smooth ride, performance, handling, and stylish design. They also like the value it offers compared with similar cars, which fits a car that blends heritage styling with modern updates like Sync 3 and fresh appearance packages. For you, that means the Mustang makes the most sense if you want a sporty coupe or convertible that still feels usable and current. Good and great deals account for 32.3% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners find fun, smooth, and satisfying to live with over time, with repeated praise for performance, handling, and overall value. The expert review also describes the Mustang as a strong deal in its class, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable ownership choice when maintained well. Ford’s included updates and the improved Sync 3 system add to the sense that this model year was built to feel more modern and usable day to day. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot, especially on cars that may have been driven hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and pay close attention to any signs of prior bodywork, modified parts, or uneven wear. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a sports car like this, since condition can vary widely from one example to the next. Focus on how the car drives, how the interior has held up, and whether the equipment matches the trim level you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base V6 comes with 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and MyKey, while higher trims add features like power front seats, unique wheels, rear spoilers, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and ambient lighting.
• Powertrain: The Mustang offers a V6, a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost, and a V8, with the V6 rated at 300 hp and 280 lb-ft, the EcoBoost at 310 hp and 320 lb-ft, and the V8 at 435 hp and 400 lb-ft. Efficiency varies by engine, with the V6 returning 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the manual, the EcoBoost reaching 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic, and the V8 trading more fuel use for more power.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the key tech update, and the upgraded system uses an 8-inch touchscreen. The Premium trim also adds a 9-speaker Sync 3 setup, and the system is quicker than the old interface.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the 6-speed manual, the EcoBoost gets 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic, and the V8 is rated at 15/25/19.

Which 2016 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• V6: This is the value-focused entry point, and it already brings a strong feature set for the money, including keyless entry and ignition, 17-inch alloys, and the 300-hp V6. It suits you best if you want the Mustang experience without stretching the budget.
• EcoBoost: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the turbocharged 4-cylinder’s stronger output and better efficiency while keeping the car lighter and more agile. If you want a balanced mix of performance and running costs, this is the trim to start with.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and tech before moving to V8 power. It adds Sync 3, leather, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and other upscale touches that make daily use easier.
• GT: This is the pick if you want the V8 experience and are willing to give up some premium features to get it. It delivers the bigger-engine character and performance-focused hardware that define the Mustang’s top-end appeal.
• GT Premium: This is the most complete version if you want V8 power plus the nicer cabin and feature content. It restores the premium equipment while keeping the stronger performance hardware, making it the best fit if you want the full Mustang package.

Premium Mustangs can also add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,770 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,370, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $18,578 sits slightly below last year's $19,741.

That decline suggests the Mustang has softened in the used market, which can be good for you as a buyer but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, pricing pressure means condition, mileage, and trim matter even more when it’s time to list. Well-kept examples should still draw interest because the car’s mix of style and performance remains appealing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2016 Ford Mustang earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Premium Mustangs can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors. That means you can build in more driver assistance if you want extra confidence in daily driving and parking.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds heritage touches, new appearance packages, and Sync 3 to keep the Mustang feeling fresh.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $19,759, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $18,578 average.
• It was a redesigned anniversary-year Mustang with broader appeal and a big step forward dynamically and technologically.

The bottom line: If you want the better buy, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid satisfaction and fresh updates. If you’re comparing closely and care most about the redesign-year character, the 2015 still has appeal, but you’ll likely pay more for it.

How does the 2016 Ford Mustang compare to the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?

Our experts score the 2016 Ford Mustang 7.5/10 and the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 7.3/10.

The Mustang is the better value here, with a lower average used price and more listings to shop. The Camaro has the edge in fuel economy and a slightly higher share of good and great deals, but the Mustang counters with stronger owner satisfaction and a more favorable expert score. If you want the more affordable and more plentiful choice, the Mustang is the easier car to shop.
