Is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — 4.33/5 from owners, which points to strong shopper satisfaction. The expert rating is 6/10.

The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, rugged look, and powerful engine, and they also highlight comfort and spaciousness. The overview frames it as a truck for rough terrain rather than broad family duty, so it makes the most sense if you want a purpose-built pickup with clear off-road intent.

The market shows 33.0% good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert writeup also describes the Tacoma as durable and dependable. That same assessment notes that Toyota’s reputation for reliability and dependability is a major part of the truck’s appeal.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also reinforces that long-term ownership can make sense, especially if you plan to use the truck hard. For used buyers, the main risk is paying for age and wear on a truck that may have been driven in demanding conditions.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Tacoma?

At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off-road or for towing. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment still works as intended. Because this model year is older and purpose-built, the details of how it was used matter a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRD Pro adds off-road hardware, including an electronically locking rear differential, hill-start assist control, downhill assist control, bead-lock-style wheels, knobby all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs, and increased wheel travel. It also rides higher than a stock Tacoma, but it does not add step rails, so entry is less convenient.
• Powertrain: The 4.0-liter V6 is the engine described here, and the TRD supercharger raises output to 295 horsepower and 318 lb-ft of torque. The tradeoff is thirstier fuel use and more noise.
• Safety package: The truck includes 6 standard airbags and Smart Stop Technology. An optional reversing camera is mentioned, and downhill assistance control is part of the TRD Pro setup.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, music streaming, and a fast-charging USB 2.0 port. The premium setup adds Entune App Suite, a reversing camera, navigation, a JBL sound system, voice recognition, satellite radio, predictive traffic and weather, and HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The truck averaged 15.1 mpg in testing, and the standard V6 is described as getting 18 mpg.

Which 2015 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 1 trim level: TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

The TRD Pro is the clear choice if you want the Tacoma’s most off-road-focused setup. It adds the suspension, tires, locking rear differential, and other hardware that make this version stand apart from a standard Tacoma, but it also comes with a rougher, more specialized personality that suits buyers who will actually use those capabilities.

The safety package note is simple: the truck’s standard safety equipment is limited for the class, so you should pay close attention to the available camera and the truck’s overall condition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with some room to find value if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,478 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,434, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $20,357 sits slightly below last year's $20,855.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer but may trim upside for a future seller. Even so, the Tacoma’s pricing remains relatively resilient for an older truck, especially given its reputation and niche appeal. If you keep mileage, condition, and accident history in check, you should still have a solid shot at holding value better than many used trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The Tacoma gets a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, and in IIHS testing it earns Good ratings but has not been tested for small overlap frontal protection. It also carries a Marginal roof crush strength rating.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety equipment includes 6 standard airbags and Smart Stop Technology, with an optional reversing camera and downhill assistance control on the TRD Pro. The expert assessment also makes clear that the truck’s safety tech is limited by modern standards, so you should not expect a broad driver-assistance suite.

The main caveat is that this is an older truck with dated safety performance and limited advanced protection features.

Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It’s the final-year, off-road-focused TRD Pro version before the redesign.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,719, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $20,357 average.
• It was redesigned for broader flexibility and more configuration choices.

The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced, off-road-specialized Tacoma and can live with its age, the 2015 makes sense. If you’d rather pay more for the redesigned truck’s broader appeal and flexibility, the 2016 is the better long-term path. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2015, while shoppers who want a newer-feeling Tacoma should look ahead.
