Is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

The expert evaluation reinforces that it is a durable machine, with language emphasizing reliability and dependability over the long haul. Toyota dealers are also described as willing to discount it, which can help offset ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and older technology can show up even when the truck’s core durability remains strong.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Tacoma?

At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a hands-on inspection of body condition, underbody wear, and signs of hard use. Because this truck is often bought for work and trail duty, condition matters as much as mileage. If you’re considering a TRD Pro or another heavily used example, pay extra attention to suspension, tires, and any signs of off-road abuse.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRD Pro stands out with off-road hardware, including an electronically locking rear differential, hill-start assist control, downhill assist control, bead-lock-style wheels, knobby all-terrain tires, and upgraded suspension; the cabin still leans heavily on cheap, gray plastic, and it lacks step rails.
• Powertrain: The 4.0-liter V6 is the engine described here, and the TRD supercharger raises output substantially; the tradeoff is noisy operation and thirsty fuel use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes 6 airbags and Smart Stop Technology, with an optional reversing camera and downhill assistance control on the test truck; the safety content also notes trim-related limitations.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, music streaming, and a fast-charging USB 2.0 port; the premium setup adds Entune App Suite, a reversing camera, navigation, JBL audio, voice recognition, satellite radio, traffic and weather reports, and HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck averaged 15.1 mpg, and the cost-effectiveness content describes the truck as thirsty.

Which 2015 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 1 trim level: TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

The TRD Pro is the clear choice if you want the Tacoma’s most trail-focused setup, with suspension upgrades and off-road hardware that make the truck feel purpose-built. It suits you best if you value Baja-style character and can accept the compromises in ride polish, cabin refinement, and everyday versatility. The safety content also notes that the truck’s standard equipment is limited, so you should not expect a modern driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,452 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,434, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $20,248 sits slightly below last year's $20,768.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has become a bit easier to buy than it was a year ago, which can help you if you plan to sell later by keeping entry costs more manageable. Even with the decline, the Tacoma’s reputation for durability and owner satisfaction should continue to support demand. If you buy well and keep the truck in good condition, you should still have a solid path to resale.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with three-star protection for the front passenger in a frontal-impact collision. In IIHS testing, it gets Good ratings, but the roof crush strength rating is Marginal.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content points to 6 standard airbags and Smart Stop Technology as standard equipment, with an optional reversing camera and downhill assistance control on the test truck. That said, the truck’s age shows here too, and the Marginal roof-strength result is a meaningful caveat if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It offers a limited-production TRD Pro with serious off-road intent.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,302, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $20,248 average.
• It brings a redesigned, more configurable Tacoma with broader everyday flexibility.

The bottom line: Choose the 2015 if you want the lower price and the TRD Pro’s trail-focused personality. Consider the 2016 if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more for broader versatility.

How does the 2015 Toyota Tacoma compare to the 2015 Ford F-150?

Our experts score the 2015 Toyota Tacoma 6/10 and the 2015 Ford F-150 8.8/10. The Tacoma is the more specialized truck here, with stronger off-road personality and a lower average used price. The F-150 brings more power, better highway mpg, and a much larger used inventory, so it is the more broadly capable choice for most shoppers.
