What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?

At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for family duty, you should also focus on interior wear, sliding-door operation, and how well the cabin equipment works.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most affordable trim, while higher trims add features such as triple-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, HondaLink, LaneWatch, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, parking sensors, and a Blind Spot Information System. The base trim leaves out many of those convenience and safety upgrades.
• Powertrain: A 248-hp 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The setup is tuned for responsive everyday driving and fuel-saving cruising behavior.
• Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is paired with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds a Blind Spot Information System.
• Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add a touchscreen audio system, HondaLink, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, HDMI technology, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, and the expert drive notes a combined average of 19.8 mpg during testing.

Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want core tech like Bluetooth, hands-free texting, Pandora, and a USB port. It makes sense if you care more about the Odyssey’s space and utility than luxury extras.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds major everyday conveniences such as triple-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, power sliding side doors, and a universal garage door opener.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and a power tailgate. It also adds important driver-assistance features, making it a strong step up for families who want more comfort and safety.
• Touring: This trim is for you if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, plus bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, memory settings, and third-row sunshades.
• Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including the ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s safety upgrades helped it earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,447, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,427 average.
• It brings more design flair while staying focused on family use.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
