Is the 2014 Dodge Charger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its strong engine, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving character. The expert notes also reinforce that it is a sophisticated machine rather than just a style exercise, which supports confidence in how it should hold up as a used buy.

The V6 and 8-speed automatic pairing is described as surprisingly quick, and the car’s overall setup suggests it is built for regular use rather than constant drama. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car has been cared for well, especially given the performance-oriented nature of the lineup.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?

At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and electronics work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE includes 164 standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. The SXT adds more equipment and is the trim that the expert test drive focuses on, while the R/T and SRT sit higher in the lineup.
• Powertrain: The base V6 is paired with either a 5-speed automatic or an 8-speed automatic, and the V6 is described as surprisingly quick. The V8-powered R/T and SRT bring much more power, but they also come with a fuel-economy penalty.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The standard safety equipment includes airbags and traction control, and the backup camera is highlighted for its crisp display.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is described as simple and easy to use. The available Beats By Dre stereo can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth.
• Fuel efficiency: The base rear-wheel-drive V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city and 27 highway. V6 models with the 8-speed automatic improve to 19/31, while the all-wheel-drive SXT with the 8-speed automatic is estimated at 18/27.

Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core style plus the standard LED taillights, power driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, power outlets, and USB audio input. It makes sense if you want the look and basic functionality at the lowest starting price.
• SXT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the more complete everyday experience the expert review centers on, including the stronger feature mix and the balanced V6 setup. If you want the Charger’s personality without jumping to V8 pricing, this is the trim to target.
• R/T: Choose this if you want the 5.7-liter V8 and are willing to trade fuel economy for more muscle. It is the step up for buyers who care more about power than efficiency.
• SRT: This is the top performance choice, with the 6.4-liter V8 and the highest starting price. It suits you if maximum output is the priority.

The safety package is available with lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Charger?

The market looks moderate for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping rather than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 23.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 551 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,415, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $10,475 sits slightly below last year's $11,192.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation.

The Charger’s broad appeal, strong styling, and enthusiast following can help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Cars that present cleanly and have a solid history should be easier to move later than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2014 Dodge Charger earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with standard airbags and traction control, and the available safety tech includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is also a standout, with a large, crisp display that should make parking and reversing easier.

One caveat is that the forward warning system can be oversensitive, so you may need to get used to its alerts. That does not erase the value of the available driver-assistance features, but it does mean you should test them during your own drive.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 23.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 combines bold styling with a sophisticated feel and a quick V6 setup.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,068, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,475 average.
• It brings a sleeker front and brighter rear end.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it offers strong owner satisfaction, a lower average price, and plenty of inventory to shop. If you want the newer look and are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the cleaner upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 is the one to focus on first.
