problem with our 2007 Lexus Es 350

Asked by Manny Jul 18, 2020 at 02:35 AM about the 2007 Lexus ES 350 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok. I asked about this problem previously, but here is an update, About 2
weeks ago the check engine light and VSC warning came on at the same
time while driving. The car was acting funny, hesitating on acceleration, and
also showing decreased mpg, but only slightly.

I needed to get it smog checked. So I took it to the smog station, knowing it
would not pass, because of the light. When it was my turn to drive the car in
the stall, the warning lights for the check engine and VSC had disappeared.
The mechanic only said that's strange, as he had never seen that before. He
was hesitant to SMOG check the car, but said, hey 50/50 chance it will pass.
It did pass with flying colors, and the car was running great. I commute about
110 miles per day. Up a mountain and down. Next day I drove it to work, and
no problems, Two days later the check engine light comes on again along
with the VSC warning, I had the car scanned at Auto Zone they stated a
block 2 coil was faulty. The car showed some signs of hesitancy on
acceleration, and felt like it was going to stall, but I got it home, and let it sit
in the garage. We have a 2018 es 350 also,
Now today, I drove it around the block just to check out how it was running.
Not rough, but the warning lights remained. Now in the evening, I was
curious to see how it would run, when the night temperature was cooler. Low
and behold the check engine light and the VSC light are gone again. Could
this be a short? The OBD 2 scan did say I had a weak coil, but what does
that have to do with the VSC. DO I need to change my brake pads, or have
the nitrogen in my tires checked?

If the vehicles sensors detect a problem, it will illuminate the check engine light and in some cases the VSCl to protect the systems of the vehicle. You need to properly scan the vehicle again to get the 4 digit fault codes and make a repair and not ignore it if you don't want the lights to come back on again. Depending on the code, you just might have worn spark plugs that is effecting Cylinder 2. Are you at 100K miles? Then it's time to replace regardless. Start there if you are handy. If you still have the issue, you could have the coils tested or swap the coils from one cylinder to another to see if the code moves. P0302 is a misfire on cylinder 2, P0303 is cylinder 3, etc. . There also might be other fault codes, so proceed accordingly. Report back here once you have the code if you want more help.
