bent valve

Asked by hoodbilly Sep 02, 2011 at 03:15 PM about the 1997 Pontiac Sunfire 2 Dr SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

working on a buddies car tore the heads off and as i predicted the #1 valve was bent badly as if it had hit the piston head so i took all the valves out and replaced all valve seats and seals and cleaned an excessive amount of gunk and grime troughout the entire feul system ...as if it were back firing into the feul intake...so my quetion is could it be just build up on the valves that caused this or could it be a timing issue...ive never heard the car run so i never got a timing light on it what do u think
