if the negative post is disconnected and it's then touch with by a metel object should the post spark at that time

Some parasitic loads can cause a small spark, to test for a draw put a test light between the battery post and the cable end, if the light turns on bright then you have a draw that will kill a battery very quickly, if it just glows very dim then it is a parasitic load that would be considered normal for year make and model. HTH
