Cant figure out why The high temp gage goes on when the fliuds are full or near filled. Its close to 260 degrees whan only going around the block?

Its a 96 wagon 1.3 sec inline4 88HP Has new (non factory rad and new temp gage) It over heats ( or so it says) I have done everything including Rad flush new fluids and what not It still claiming blasting point

first check the motor to see if it is really that hot,is it boiling oun into overflow tank,it could be a bad guadge,other bad rad cap,thermostat,water pump.
