Will bleeding the brakes and clutch fix the problem with the clutch going to the floor?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

99 ford escort zx2. i changed rear brake shoes and shortly after the clutch
now goes to the floor. I've read that the clutch is mixed in with the brakes
master cylinder so when i changed the rear brakes is it possible I could have
gotten air in the lines enough that my clutch would lose pressure enough to
stop working? I adjusted the rod out as far as it would go out and it bought
me a couple more hours. I dont want to send it off to be fixed if bleeding the
brakes and clutch is what will fix it. Thanks

does it engage at all? if it were me I would think about the Pressure Plate ? how many miles on your clutch? has it ever been replace? was it working well before you did the brakes? if it did you might have messed something up? in that case for air I Would do a pressure bleeding if you do not know how? have it done

and your clutch is not sharing the break master cly with breaks, if it is Hydraulic? it would have it's own cly

Don't know where you read that clutch hydraulics are tied to brakes! You probably have blow-by in the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder. You could rebuild them but it is just better to replace them. Be sure to back the rod out before trying to put it back together. The car is 18 years old so I would be sure to check the pressure plate and throw-out bearing also. Depending on mileage and type of driving there is a good chance it is shot too. Probably going to end up doing a complete clutch rebuild.

The clutch master cyl. gets its hydraulic fluid from the brake master cyl. via a feed hose connecting them together for fluid only. If at any point in bleeding the brakes the reservoir was emptied there is a real good chance you have air in the clutch M.C. I just finished replacing the M.C. and Slave Cyl. on a 2002 ZX2 and the failure of the clutch sys. was from the deterioration of the little hose that connects the brake sys.reservoir hyd. fluid was black as coal and clogged up the clutch M.C. and slave. The Hydraulic shud be clean not crappie. Hope this info will help. (:- ).
