battery not holding charge

Asked by Guru94MGP8 Sep 24, 2020 at 07:28 PM about the 2011 Honda CR-V EX-L FWD with Navigation

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently my 2011 Honda CRV is not starting. When I have the car jumped the
battery is fine but as soon as I turn the car off it wont start again. I put it on a
battery charger and it shows the batter has full charge. A mechanic looked
under the car when i was at Walmnart trying to get a jump and he said it was
the lead wire to the battery (maybe alternator) that needed cleaned??

It sounds like you have multiple issues. A weak battery and corroded battery cable terminals. Have the battery tested at an auto parts store or a local garage, not walmart. Clean or replace the battery cables or the terminal ends and the battery, and you should be good to go.

If the battery is over 3 years old, just get a new one. You probably have a dead cell. Have an auto parts store check it out. If it's below 12 volts, get a new battery and make sure the terminals and cables are clean. Even a little bit if corrosion on the cables can inhibit a new battery.
