1997 thunderbird fuel pump

had a shop replace my fuel pump and 6 mins later that pump went out now I'm
wondering if this fuel pump is not working right too. Seems to cut out at higher
speeds and at low speed it makes you put your foot into it to get going. I
noticed the other day that the pump would prime the system every time you turn
the key. it did this 12 times key on then off then on then off but never primed the
system enough to not come back on. car is also hard to start but if you prime
the system 2 or 3 times it starts better. I have new plugs, wires, fuel filter evap
valve and air filter. so could this be another bad fuel filter?

you went backwards on yourself. AND the shop screwed you out of a pump!! The shop should have looked at your fuel relay in the fuse box. If I'm the mechanic there and there are fuel issues i'm going for the relay. I go to the junk yard and get them out of the Ford cars because I just look for the football play diagram on side ( it has an 85 on it). BUT THAT is my opinion of what works for me. If you want to go waste $20 for a new relay on a 97, its your choice. The shop scammed you on this. Maybe you didn't know about the relay. you did the right thing, though, you turned the key and listened to it prime, that alone should have told you pump was fine, because it doesn't take 12 volts to run a fuel pump nor the relay. I would definitely report the shop to BBB. you didn't need a $150 pump, but a $3 relay. keep your chin up
