I have only changed two transmissions in my life. One was on my 1979 Toyota pickup 2wd and the other was on my 1966 Ford Mustang. Both manual trannys. Most transmissions will last the life of the vehicle with proper care and not beating it to death. My 1989 Toyota 4X4 had the original transmission when I sold it. I did change out the clutch plate. It was also a manual tranny. Had over 250k on it. Not to say that there aren't some vehicles with known transmission problems. But that is mostly due to design flaws.

I would say don't buy it. Altima has CVT- transmission. Stay away from buying any car that has CVT- transmission. I bought a used 2009 Altima on 2014. When I bought it, it had about 130K miles. Now it has 164K miles, and it's transmission broke down now. It is not cheap to replace the transmission. Just stay away from any car that CVT-transmission. They are not reliable.

I AM buying a 2003 Altima because it DOES NOT have a CVT transmission , and Renault was the new partner and had not damaged Nissans' quality to the extent it has today. Make Nissan great again, get Renault to go back to France and build its' own CRAPPY CARS that no one wants to buy.

We have a 2012 Altima we need to replace transmission. Once we do about how long should it last

I read somewhere that the average lifespan of a Nissan CVT is around 60,000 miles. It should last at least twice that long but they don't usually.
