1994 Mitsubishi Montero engine swap or rebuild?

Asked by Tom Jun 15, 2020 at 09:35 PM about the 1994 Mitsubishi Montero LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just purchased a '94 Montero, the previous owner said the engine threw a rod.
I'm not sure if I should rebuild or swap with something else. Looking for rebuild
tips and recommendations on engine rebuild kits. Also want to get some
feedback on swap options.

If it threw a rod the engine is probably scrap metal. I would look for a good used engine.

Thanks, will it need to be from the same year/series or could I drop in a newer Montero 2000 - 2003 engine. I found a 2000 and a 2003 both run and drive around $800 each.
