How do I go about flushing the system of an Audi A4 1.8?

Asked by AlexAudi Nov 29, 2015 at 11:55 PM about the 1999 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T quattro AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It's been sitting for aa year to a little over a year and I just put in a new battery.
Thought I should flush the system, but don't know how. Can someone help
describe how to do this so I don't have to take it to a shop?

Unless the car has been running hot I would do a basic clean of the cooling system. First drain as much coolant out as you can and then put a bottle of radiator cleaner in and fill with water. Run the car until warm and for as long as recommended on the bottle. When the car is cool drain and refill with coolant in a 50-50 mixture unless you live in a really cold area. The bottle will have a chart to follow for very cold temperatures. If possible fill the radiator with the car facing up hill to minimize air in the system. Run the car and check for leaks and when cool check the coolant level and top off if necessary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt- ts=1422579428&v=7w3fFNSMFLw&x-yt-cl=85114404

As old as your car is consider installing new radiator hoses while you are at it.

If it's not broken, don't fix it- really, don't try messin' around on that Audi yourself- ask your friendly qualified Audi mechanic for advice- in fact, if that Audi still runs just sell it and save your bank account-
