Retrieving codes without tool
Is it possible to pull codes without buying a tool for
check engine light on 1997 ford expedition xlt v8
You can visit your local auto parts store and ask them to scan the computer. Most stores will do it for free. HTH. -Jim
Thanks jim, just wanted to find out tonight, myself.
You're welcome. Glad to help. Thank you for the best answer click. Actually, for future reference, the only vehicle I know of that you can pull trouble codes from without a scan tool is Cadillac. You can get them from the climate control system by pressing and holding the off and warmer buttons together. HTH. -Jim
I know that's an old answer but it's wrong. You can hold down the trip reset button while the engine is off, turn the key to the start position (do not crank), and when the odometer says 'test', let go. Then press and let go to go through the various tests and then it will say the codes if they exist. They start with 'P'. Tested on my 1999 Ford expedition.
