Intermittent cvt problem

Had cvt fluid and filter changed approximately 125
miles ago at aamco, they charged me for 12 quarts
of fluid. Recently had another mechanic check it
and it is dark and smells burnt. How is this
possible?

125 miles is probably not enough miles to burn the fluid! Why did you have it checked?
