98 Ford Taurus Transmission fluid line leak, trying to remove bolt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

98 Ford Taurus..upper transmission fluid line (directly under car battery)
leaking at the connection that has compression bolt. Made sure the bolts are
tight but still leaking. Fluid leak is heavy when car is running, drips when car
is off. I've unscrewed compression bolt, it is still attached to the metal line.
There seems to be a white plastic piece (fitter?) with little clips holding the
bolt to the line, I'm pretty sure that is where the leak is because everything
else looks fine. I can't seem to get the bolt and plastic piece off the line, the
bolt just keeps turning. Anyone know the trick?

The line might need to be reflared to replace fitting, hard to tell without seeing it. It may be easier to simply replace the line with one from a salvage vehicle if you don't have the tools to reflare it. In the meantime be sure to keep trans fluid level up, letting it run hot even once can ruin the trans. (i personally wouldn't drive it until that line was repaired.
