I got a friend that blew out a freeze plug on a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer with 4.6 v 8 motor. Is there a way I can replace it without dropping the transmission since it is all up there behind a train?

You could pull the engine, and that might be a good idea, if you have one plug leaking now you could have others start to leak when the cooling system comes up to pressure.
