2003 SABLE WAGON- NEED TO WAIT 1HR+ TO RESTART AFTER HALF HR. TRIPS

Asked by pkrhoads Jan 01, 2015 at 12:16 PM about the 2003 Mercury Sable LS Premium Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Gents-  95K.mileage, but when I drive around area on errands if I shut off engine for ~2o min. I have to wait at least 45 min. for it to restart.  Drives me nuts.  Changed fuel pump (in tank !) $650.00, changed Idle air solenoid(?) $185.00, changed starter solenoid (intermittent signal?) $132.00, still has same problem.  When it runs it's a very good -car looks new, I like it.  4th Sable I've owned, sold all with high mileage,am now retired and putting only ~7K. miles/year.  Garage kept.  I know there's a simple fix somewhere, but where?

Is it hot where u live? This almost sounds like vapor lock. U may need to insulate the fuel lines around your engine compartment. Maybe around the fuel rail.. try it should be cheap for the tape. Or fill it with shell premium and see if it helps. Premium has no ethanol added..ethanol increases the odds of vapor lock.
