Why won't my car start.

Asked by davida79 Jun 22, 2012 at 08:15 PM about the 1998 Ford Escort 2 Dr ZX2 Cool Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Today I drove it to work in the morning, It drove fine . I have more than a half of gas in the tank. The engine will turn
over ,but not fire. The battery is good . I don't smell any full for flooding or a possibile busted full pump.  I believe the
fuel pump could have went out . I hope that isn't the case . If you have any suggestions please help me .

Check for spark, that would be easy. Electric fuel pumps can usually be heard for a few seconds when you turn the key to the on position after it has sat for a minute. But sometime it may be working but not well enough. Have a fuel pressure test done.
