Car won't start but axillary comes on, showing "Press Brake" but nothing happens

Asked by Guru9P2WQR Jul 04, 2022 at 07:19 PM about the 2018 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've had my 2017 Ford Explore XLT worked on twice regarding this issue.
The car runs great and then will intermittently not start but all axillary comes
on but not the engine. Dash lights up and says to "Push Brake to STart" but
when I do nothing happens and the start button flickers green. I recently got
a new starter put it and it has run great for 2.5 weeks. I was running errands
that morning and it decided to randomly not start again. After the car sits a
while it sometimes will start but scared to drive it and have it not start again.
The battery has been tested and the key fob is all good as well. Any idea on
what this issue might be?

Your brakelight switch is gone. The start circuit runs through the brake lights as a safety factor.Replace it and you will be fine. Bob

Not necessarily a BAD brake light switch. (If it involves the brake light switch the brake lights will not be working properly when the pedal is pressed -which is easy enough to check.). The brake light switch could just need to be adjusted. Or there could be a poor electrical connection. Or even a faulty ignition switch..
