2005 kia spectra5 wont start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 kia spectra5 that i got a little over a
month ago. Car ran great up until a few weeks ago.
Turned it off one night at work and it wouldn't start
back up when I got off of work. Finally got it
started by pressing the fuel pump shut off switch
under the hood, but sadly now that's not working.
The car has complete power when I put the keys in
it but when I turn the key it doesn't even turn over.
Has good battery and alternator. Cranks when i
mess with the fuses and the fuel pump shut off
switch occasionally. I have no clue what it could
be. Had the starter tested and its good, replaced
the battery, changed out some fuses and still
nothing. I would appricieate any help/ideas you
might have as to what could be wrong with it.   Oh
and the car is a stick shift.

If it was the fuel pump or tbe fuel lines would that cause it to start occasionally? Because it starts when it wants to its like it has a mind of its own. Its gotten ao bad that I habe to leave it on while im in work because im afraid that if i shut it off it wont start back up again.

Depending on how much mileage you have it just might need new spark plugs. Another thing to look at is the timing belt. Here’s a quick video by ChrisFix on how to diagnose an engine that cranks but won’t start: https://youtu.be/PNhuDCVIydw Hopefully that helps!

My old Silverado was exactly like that, try looking at your terminal connections because you can still get power but not enough to turn it over

Well finally figured it out. Turns out the clutch pedal has a little spot on it where theres a button that when pressed lets the car crank up. The chutch pedal had a little plastic piece in a small hole cut out on it and the plastic insert that was on mine has broken off so to get the car started i have to get on my knee and press the button in while the car is in nutrual just to get it started. Ill send photos later today of it.
