1986 5.0 Crown Vic LTD Wagon - idle is fast and hunts

Asked by Jun 25, 2017 at 10:32 AM about the 1986 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 4 Dr Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my wagon is running and on the road. one item to sort out is the high idle
In part it sometimes idles nice but sometimes way too fast.
When I put it in drive or reverse (load up the engine) it starts hunting. Wont stall
and once u push throttle runs  without issue.
Is there  a valve or a sensor to work on and could it be the pitiful condition of
the vacuum lines?

Lube and clean the linkage to the throttle body. Then clean the throttle body and IAC, might be full of carbon. check youtube on how to do it. Use a specific throttle body cleaner found at your local auto parts store.
