Does the dash have to be removed to replace the evaoprator core on a 2001 hyundai sonata
I have a smell in the car when running the AC. I feel the evaporator is leaking freon so I was wondering if the dash has to be removed to get to the evaporator. air is no longer working
It's actually R134a...and that gas has a "faint sweetish odor" according to the MSDS. So if you are detecting a sour or other unpleasant odor, the refrigerant gas is not what you smell . The problem with the A/C is elsewhere.
I agree with FordNut, evaporator leaks are rare, while heater core leaks are getting common place. I would recommend you have the system checked professionally, they have "134 sniffers" that can detect a leak in the ducts. So get it checked out before you go tearing it down.
