2005 C230 komp wont start

Asked by Bob Jul 21, 2018 at 12:08 PM about the 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 230 Kompressor Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Changed the alternator First unplugged the battery.
Installed and put everything back together and the car will
not start. Checked battery and it is good. Ground cable
gets warm when trying to start. Took it all apart again to
check. All pulleys move about 2 inches when trying to
start. I’ve checked all fuses. Is the starter or cylanoid bad?

When I test the battery it reads 12.9 and when I get the start button on the charger it drops to 10.6

Follow up, removed the starter and had it tested, it tested good, checked the voltage at the starter at 12.45. I'm going to change the starter just to be sure.

If you’re reading this then you are probably looking for help. Hope this relates to your situation. My ‘05 C230 worked one day, wouldn’t crank the next. Sat for weeks. Code received was for “camshaft position sensor.” I popped the hood and unplugged it. Car crank right up! Will be ordering a new one for $10.99 from Ebay. Picture of it’s location is attached. Less than 5 secs to find. Remove cover; right next to ignition coil number 3. Take care!
