I bought my 2000 Odyssey in 2003 with 47K miles on it. Since day one I can hear a low squeal when I back up the van. I have reported the problem to several mechanics who have worked on the van. They tell me the brakes are fine; they don't know why the van squeals. Any ideas on why this happens?
My van is right up to date on maintenance. I recently had a new catalytic converter put in as the old one went bad. I also had to have the 3rd gear electrical switch replaced.
That's it and the van still squeals when I back up.
The squeaking could come from a bearing or bushing that is in need of oil or lubricant. It could also be the brake calipers and pads but if that were the case you would hear a squeaking when going forward too.
most often caused by brake dust in rear shoes slightly binding against drums nothing to worry about just a pain to listen to
