Is it necessary to change the cylinder head bolts when replacing the head gasket? Are they strech bolts? Reason being I removed the head to fix a cracked valve and replaced the head gasket, when i started it up i was blowing white smoke, I torqued it down to proper troque and used the proper sequence. I mad sure i didnt nick the gasket when i put the head back on. I also tried tigthening the bolts more with no sucess. can any one advise?

Always use NEW bolts when putting a head on a car. Golden rule. They are not made to stretch but they hold a tremendous amount of pressure keeping the head on and weaken and maybe even stretch

Agree, never use old head bolts,or you may have more heartache then you bargained for.
