Ignitoi n Switch

Asked by Jan 15, 2014 at 07:19 PM about the 2003 Honda Accord EX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX V6. The ignition key is going bad. Was told by Honda $500 to replace. I found a ignition with a key for $90, supposedly for Accord EX. The car doesn't recognize the key as it obviously is different, turns over but doesn't fire.  I also have a remote start with a key tucked into a box for the remote start to work. Is this remote start not allowing the ignition to fire or is it the new ignition switch with a different key? What can I replace or unplug so I can save $400?

Try taping the old key to the bottom of the steering column. This should work if it's a transponder key. HTH. -Jim
