Transmission problems?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey I have a 2001 V6 Mustang and I
think I have a big problem in my
hands. I think that my torque
converter is bad because it makes a
grinding noise when in gear and also
when I'm coming to a complete stop
there is sort of a lurch forward and I
think that it's also because of the
torque converter. I have not taken it
to a shop yet but how much do you
guys think it will cost to fix? And I
have been driving for a bit, do you
guys think I have done damage to
the entire transmission, it's only short
rides and I drive it with caution. Also
I have just noticed that the torque
converter is not the one making the
metallic sounds rather it's my
catalytic converters that are shaking
for an unknown reason and they
make the metallic noise.

I also forgot to say that my car does leak small amounts of ATF but it usually isonly drops. And there is also a ticking or clicking noise when I accelerate and at times the car does not start with the first turn of the key, sometimes it requires me to take the key out and try it 1 or 2 more times. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I guess I misphrased myself, I meant to say that my cats shake making a metallic sound when in gear and with the brake applied. I also feel a surge or jerk forward when I brake to a complete stop. Any other suggestions?

In stead saying this and that. You need to put your problems on a Pease of paper .Start with one problem at a time.If so one problem could be tied into another and be the same problem. You can get a book on your car and brake the problems down.Or take you list get a free estament to a repair shop
