2014 Kia optima hybrid 'check hybrid system- stop car..'

Asked by Natalie Mar 03, 2022 at 04:54 PM about the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got this car maybe 5 days ago and I've had the system
message pop up about 3 times now. It's a used car but with
barely any miles on it. It first happened on my way home on
the freeway and I was using my cruise control (75mph).
Suddenly the cruise just stopped and I felt the car slowing, I
noticed the service message and then within seconds the
message went away like nothing happened. It only happens
with the cruise on, and it never shuts the car down like I see
many people saying happens. It just pops on to turn the
cruise off then boom its fine and I can set my cruise. At first
I thought it was because the eco was on and I assumed I
overexerted it (it was brand new and I had no idea what
most of the buttons did). So I made it a point to turn the
eco off when going freeway speeds and I thought it was
helping till it happened again today. I don't know what to do
or what it means but I don't want to spend thousands to
get this car fixed since I literally just got it. I'm at a loss :(

Hybrid systems are a complex balancing act involving many moving and computer parts. The first thing I would do would be to check your VIN number for recalls. There is a possibility there could be a free fix for you at a dealership.
