Used Lexus equal to Mercedes C300

I am looking to purchase a used Mercedes C250 or C300 for about $16,000.
However, I have been told that Lexus may be a better choice. What is
comparable Lexus to the Mercedes C300.
Thank you in advance, I know nothing about Lexus so would have no idea
what model or year to start a search.

Personally having owned both vehicles I have to say the Lexus takes award. Not only did it cost less but was way cheaper to maintain then the MB, MB parts prices were crazy high and not every shop would work on a Mercedes. Hope that helps.

Thank you that is very helpful. I have always had Mercedes' for a long time. But I buy them used and they have served me well. However, I have a good friend that runs a Mercedes repair shop. That was the key for me. I'm relocating to a different state and I won't have that privilege. Perhaps it's time to make the switch.
