Brake lights stay on when car is on.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Brake lights turn off when car is off but stay on
when the car is on. I checked the pedal switch and
inspected the brake switch. Both are fine and wiring
looks good. What else can cause this?

Update: “Brake System” dash warning light show up and goes away spontaneously for one week now.

Your brake fluid could be low. Check to see if the fluid level is at the MAX line. If not, add the correct amount of fluid and check for where the leak is. It could also be a faulty or dirty brake switch. The springs tend to get dirty and bind. It is attached to the brake pedal under the dash. If you don't work on cars, have a shop inspect it ASAP.

I checked the brake fluid and its at the max line. The switch and the little rubber stopper is intact. I even unplug it to check the wires. I’m going to get a second opinion tomorrow. This is just a speculation but could it, perhaps, be a faulty fuse?
