How can I get my 2002 Ford Explorer transmission to stop slipping going into second gear?
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer with 135,000 miles on it. It has begun to slip (the engine revs slightly) going into second gear. I've looked on the net and found that this is common. Is Ford going to stand behind the issue and handle the repair? OR -- Is there a cost effective way to get the transmission repaired?
An 02 with 135K miles they are going to say it all you problem. Sometimes a service and adding a quart of TransX will help clean the solenoids and it might temporarily make it shift better, but really you should have a tranny shop run the tests to see if it is a solenoid problem or something deeper.
After 14 years Ford never heard of that transmission! The cost effective method is a low mileage transmission from a salvage yard.
