89 s10 ignition / transmission issue?

Asked by S10SLAVE Apr 15, 2020 at 02:12 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet S-10 Tahoe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 89 s10 4.3. My wife said the truck was in park and started fine.
She then couldn't get it out of park. She then asked my son (17 yrs old) if I
had shown him any tricks to get it out of park. He then proceeded to force it
out of park. The truck will not start now. Everything seems to feel normal.
Ignition, shifting etc. With the exception that the ignition won't engage the
starter. Not even a click. Ideas??? Truck has a new starter that had been
working perfect up until this point.

put in neutral and if it starts sounds like the shifter safety switch got tweeked or broken when he forced it out of park
