1988 Ford F150, XL won't engage starter when you turn the key
This is an unusual problem. You jump the contacts on the passenger side fender at
the solenoid and the vehicle starts no problem. When you turn the key to start it, the
small wire connector to the solenoid under the hood will not activate the starter (have
put a new solenoid on veh.) There is a buzzing sound in two relays on drivers side
under hood. I have been told one of the relays is the fuel pump. There is a red wire
coming out of one of the relays. When you jump a wire across from this wire to the
solenoid and turn the key, the veh. immediately starts, but there is a loud hum coming
from the starter. This is a very complexing problem. I installed a new relay on the
pigtail that is not the fuel pump....any adeas?
Sounds like a bad ignition switch. HTH. -Jim
