How do you tighten the third brake light on an '87 chevette?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '87 Chevette's third brake light is loose and it will not work unless I pull down on the
entire housing. The housing will slide around. The bolts inside the housing are recessed
into plastic so it's not possible to tighten them without breaking the plastic. Anyone know
the secret?

Post a close up picture of the light so we can help you out. I haven't seen a chevette in years.

A deep well socket may work. If you absolutely can't get it tightened correctly due to age/wear solder a wire to the metal, unpainted housing. Connect the other end of the wire to something else unpainted. The bulb is grounded by the chassis so the housing must make good contact to something metal. By attaching the new wire, as explained, you're completing the circuit to ground and the light will work. HTH. -Jim
