Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when I change the starter a friend had some really heavy gauge wire he put some big end pieces, was hard to get in place on starter. could that cause the problem?

Are you sure the 'end pieces' (I assume you mean terminals?) aren't touching? Heavier gauge wire creates less resistance, no problem there. If the terminals were too big for the solenoid studs you might be creating some unintentional contact or grounding that is killing the battery.
