Honda Accord hums when reaching 60 MPH. Source?

Asked by kferd52 Jul 09, 2017 at 10:47 AM about the 2014 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Honda Accord 6 speed. Drives very well with no mechanical problems, however there is a loud hum that occurs when reaching 60 MPH on the highway. Not engine noise as it does not stop when I engage the clutch and let off the gas. Starts around 57MPH and seems to stop around 65MPH.
Any ideas?

f the noise sounds like it's coming from one side, or front/back, suspect a tire, brake, or wheel bearing. Tires can make noises at certain speeds when they go bad. I Take it in for tire balancing and rotation to confirm. You'll either find a tire out of balance, or the direction the sound is coming from will change if indeed you do have a bad tire. To check if hum is coming from brakes, get up to speed where you hear the hum then apply brakes. If it immediately goes away then that was the cause. Putting a sideload on the wheel bearings when you hear the noise may cause the change in the hum as well. Put the car through its paces and find the source of the noise, as it can get expensive spending money on tires and parts only to find none of them were the cause. Even a worn bushing can impart a hum at certain speeds if they become hardened and transfer vibrations that would normally be dampened.
