What's the best engine and
transmission combo to make my car
faster and stronger

These cars originally came with Buick. Pontiac or Olds V8 engines. I would probably pick a small block Chevy engine like a 383 or a 400. Other GM cars that used this platform came with SBC engines which means it should be a bolt in job if you source the correct parts.
