If fisrt gear is shot in a Automatic transmission, 100% of the time, in fixing it, you will end up rebuilding the whole transmission to repair. So $1200 is the going rate at most places. Your best bet is to pass on the truck and fine another unless you can find a trans out the junkyard and install it yourself BTW, in my experience you will need to spend at least 1K min. to have a decent vehicle that is inspected and running properly.
