The boot itself is around $20 at any auto parts store, but depending on how long the boot was torn, dirt and water might have gotten into the CV joint itself putting wear on it. A half shaft assembly is not much more, less than $100. I'd go that route. Here is an example on what is involved and what tools you will need......
