2000 stratus es 2.5...hesitates to shift in reverse and skips 1st gear all together

Asked by Sep 26, 2013 at 05:33 PM about the 2000 Dodge Stratus ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My stratus had a transmission hose come free while my wife was driving. She said it
started smoking and she pulled over. I towed it home replaced hose added fluid but now it
hesitates to go into reverse, skips 1st gear and when stopped hesitates to go into gear.
What could be the issue, is it major, would a computer reset help the issue? Thanks for
any help

Did you use the correct fluid? How long was your wife driving before pulling over. The trans might have overheated. Have a trans mechanic look it over for you. You might have some internal damage or fluid might have gotten on the plugs/wiring harness going to the transmission.
