Turn the steering wheel to left and right to see if it is licked and holding the key. If it does not work, start the Terrain and then turn the wheel, shut it off and see if that worked. I've had several cars that do this on occasion, and that is what I have done to fix it. It's mechanical, and no real issue.

FYI in case this happens to anyone again my car went to the mechanic 4 times they replaced the ignition, the release and the inside piece of the steering column to final find that it was the a bad sensor not communicating with the release to tell the car was in park.

My key is broke, so i put it in backwards. The wheel locked and the key is locked in backwards. Looking for the plunger on 2013 terrain, cant find it. Try again tomorrow, ugh
