2000 Odyssey...no air conditioner and a hissing sound from under glove box.
My air conditioner hasn't worked well for 2 summers. This summer I was told by a dealership it needed all new parts from fans to hoses--cost was going to be around $1,500. I have a dear friend who has always done my maintenance-a certified Honda mechanic for over 20 years. He looked at it and replaced a fan and recharged it. Although it did give a little air, it never felt a cold as it used to. Just 3 months later and it is not throwing any cool air at all. And now there is a hissing sound coming from under the glove box. Could this be that the hoses do need to be replaced after all? I ADORE my van...14 years old with 214k miles, but it still gets hot here in VA and I want to get it fixed. Ideas?
Since the AC got warm again and you have a hissing sound, that is the refrigerant leaking out. You will need to replace some hoses and O-Rings to fix your AC. Have a competent mechanic pressurize the system to find the leaks and repair accordingly. Don't go to the dealership but a local auto garage that you can get some good reviews on. Ask around, should cost you fraction of the dealership quote.
