I've tried 3 times to erase the code. The light does not go off and I can't get an inspection.

There is still a hard code that exists. There may be more than one code causing the light to go on. It may not be the actual sensor that is bad, but it could be an open circuit in the wiring or harness.

I have seen this a few times, everything's checks out fine but the ECM still turns on the light, the only way to turn it off was to have the dealer do a complete reset and relearn or worse case the ECM completely replaced.
